Launched in the US in mid-August under the DROID 2 tag-name, Motorola Milestone 2 is finally making its debut in the UK this week. The smartphone will be available SIM-free from various retailers, as well as subsidized with Vodafone contract.

Mobile phone retailer Expansys has one of the best deals for the Motorola Milestone 2 offering the device for £379.99 with a free car kit and free shipping

Customers that prefer to spend less or even nothing at all can get the Milestone 2 for free with a two-year Vodafone £30 contract.

For non-tech savvy users, Expansys explains that the device is “not a rehash, the Milestone 2 ups the stakes on the original considerably. The new processor gets a speed bump to 1GHz, while the original was no slouch, the Milestone 2 now flys through apps, and the extra on board memory gives plenty of space to run lots of apps or have graphic heavy web pages open.”

Motorola Milestone 2 is powered by a 1 Ghz processor and runs on Android 2.2 (Froyo) platform out-of-the-box.

Other key features of the device include: sliding QWERTY keyboard, 3.7-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors support and 480 x 854 pixels resolution, 3G mobile hotspot capabilities with support for up to five Wi-Fi enabled devices, MOTOBLUR UI with Live Widgets, as well as GPS with A-GPS support.

The phone also sports a 5-megapixel camera with dual LED flash, autofocus, geo-tagging, image stabilization and 720p HD video capture capabilities. It embeds 8 GB of internal memory and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32 GB).

DLNA / WiFi / Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity are also included in the package, as well as 3.5mm audio jack, Enterprise Exchange support and the full suite of the Google applications: Google Search, Google Maps with Latitude and Street View, Gmail, YouTube, and Google Talk.
