Mobile phone maker Motorola has just updated its Android upgrade plans, and announced that it would leave many of its handsets with the Android flavor they are currently running under.

Undoubtedly many users would be disappointed when learning the news, especially those who own a handset that was expected to receive the software update, such as the CLIQ XT.

Here's what Motorola states in regard to this device: “After comprehensive testing of the Android 2.1 upgrade for the CLIQ XT, we have concluded that this device will remain on Android 1.5.”

“We realize many of you were anxiously awaiting this upgrade, but we aim to deliver software upgrades only when it will provide a better customer experience,” the company continued.

Apparently, the handset would not meet the desire performance levels after being upgraded to the new OS version, and it makes sense that Motorola considered it fit to leave the phone in its current state.

The aforementioned list show that handsets like CLIQ XT MB501 (T-Mobile), CLIQ XT MB501 (Wal-Mart), or MOTOROLA i1 in the US will remain with Android 1.5 on board, while DEVOUR A555 won't be upgraded past Android 1.6.

CHARM MB502, FLIPOUT MB511, MILESTONE A854, and MILESTONE XT720 will remain to Android 2.1. Most probably, BACKFLIP MB300 and CLIQ MB200, currently receiving the Android 2.1 OS version, will share the same fate.

Outside the United States, things are not encouraging either. BACKFLIP MB300, DEXT MB200, MOTOROLA i1, and QUENCH MB501 will remain on Android 1.5 in all markets, the handset vendor announced. QUENCH XT3 XT502 will remain on Android 1.6.

The company also notes that MILESTONE A854 and MILESTONE XT720, as well as QUENCH XT5 XT502, MILESTONE XT701 / XT711 (Greater China), CHARM MB502, FLIPOUT MB511 and MOTOROI A854 (Mexico) will remain with Android 2.1 on board in the markets where they are available.

During the first quarter of the ongoing year, the company aims at offering Android 2.2 for a series of handsets, including MILESTONE A853, DEFY MB525, MILESTONE XT702 (Greater China), MOTOGLAM XT800 (Korea), and MOTOQRTY A853 (Korea).
