Since the beginning of the year, Motorola Mobility and Motorola Solution are two different entities, but only the former made the headlines with its products.

In this regard, Motorola ET1 is the first tablet launched by Motorola Solutions targeting enterprise customers.

According to Motorola Solutions, the tablet runs an enterprise-ready version of the Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform and is delivered with an optional barcode scanner and magnetic stripe reader, hot-swappable battery packs, and secure system software.

Motorola ET1 is intended to replace old Windows Embedded Handheld and Windows CE devices, though the Android environment is nothing like Windows Mobile.

However, Motorola decided to go with Google's Gingerbread platform based on feedback from potential customers “who feel they can worry less about Android.”

As a mobile computing leader with expertise in retail, Motorola Solutions’ introduction of the ET1 tablet is a natural extension to our product portfolio. The ET1 will enable store associates to leverage the sleek design and user experience of a tablet with the applications, durability, security, device management and lifecycle support that retailers require,” said Girish Rishi, corporate vice president and general manager of mobile computing, Motorola Solutions.

Motorola ET1 is equipped with a 1 GHz dual-core TI OMAP4 processor and packs 1 GB of RAM, 4 GB of Flash and a 4 GB memory card pre-installed. The tablet supports memory expansion via microSD cards up to 32 GB.

Aside Android 2.3.4 with enhanced enterprise functionality, the tablet comes with Motorola’s full suite of enterprise-grade software modules including RhoElements, a new Web-based app dev tool for creating HTML5 apps on Windows Embedded Handheld and Windows CE devices, which is also compatible with the ET1.

Other highlights of the tablet include: 7-inch capacitive touchscreen with 1024 x 600 pixels resolution (Corning Gorilla Glass protected), Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity and a 4620 mAh Li-Ion battery.

According to Motorola Solutions, the ET1 tablet is expected to hit shelves in Q4 2011.
