Best Buy has announced today that the recently unveiled Motorola DROID, the first handset to reach Verizon Wireless' airwaves with Google's Android operating system on board, is now available for pre-order from Best Buy Mobile. The new handset will hit the shelves on November 6, yet users should know that those who will pre-order it from Best Buy will not have to come up with the mail-in rebate Verizon Wireless included in the phone's price. In other words, Verizon customers will only pay $199.99 for the device upon the signing of a two-year contract agreement with the carrier.

“We’re excited to feature this new device for our consumers, as it represents the latest and greatest in mobile technology,” said Best Buy Mobile President Shawn Score. “Bringing the DROID to Best Buy Mobile expands our already unmatched assortment of smartphones allowing customers to compare high-end devices like the iPhone 3GS, HTC Hero and DROID all under one roof. The fact that customers can purchase the phone first at Best Buy through the pre-sell is an added bonus.”

What the new Motorola DROID is set to deliver to users, besides the Android 2.0 operating system, includes a 3.7-inch high-resolution screen, a 5-megapixel photo snapper with dual-LED flash and DVD-quality video recording, 3G connectivity, voice-activated Google search function, Gmail and Exchange e-mail capabilities, Google services like Google Maps, Gmail, YouTube and Google Talk, as well as the newly announced Google Maps Navigation, which offers turn-by-turn voice guidance.

Best Buy Mobile also stated that users would not enjoy only the pre-order and instant savings for the DROID, but also a series of services that should enhance the mobile phone buying experience, such as: - Upgrade Checker: A quick and easy in-store service that gives customers the ability to see when they are eligible for their next phone upgrade. When the upgrade time is nearing, customers receive a complimentary reminder call or email. - Walk Out Working: Free in-store smartphone setup by a Best Buy Mobile Phone Specialist who will sync personal email accounts, set up Bluetooth headsets, transfer contacts and activate other services to allow the customer to leave the store with a fully functional new smartphone.
