Motorola DROID 4 has finally been confirmed by Verizon Wireless. As expected, the smartphone will hit shelves on February 10 for as low as $199.99 (150 EUR) with a new two-year agreement.

In addition to the Verizon plan, DROID 4 buyer will have to subscribe to a smartphone data package starting at $30 monthly access for 2 GB of data. Verizon also offers the Lapdock 500, which is available as a separate purchase for $299.97 (230 EUR).

Officially unveiled last month at the International Consumer Electronic Show, Motorola DROID 4 is one of the thinnest QWERTY sliders available on the market.

The smartphone features a slightly smaller 4.0-inch qHD capacitive touchscreen, in comparison with the 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display of the original DROID RAZR.

However, the rest of the phone’s features seem to be similar to the Motorola DROID RAZR and DROID RAZR MAXX, with a few exceptions.

Motorola DROID 4 is equipped with the same TI OMAP 4430 dual-core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz, which is complemented by a PowerVR SGX540 graphics processing unit. The LTE-enabled device provides users with fast download speeds of 5 to 12 Mbps and upload speeds of 2 to 5 Mbps.

There’s no doubt about it, the phone’s selling point is the five-row QWERTY keyboard that features a PC-like layout, along with edge-lit keys for fast, accurate typing.

Just like the DROID RAZR, the DROID 4 boasts an enhanced 8-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording, as well as a secondary camera for video calls.

Software-wise, Motorola DROID 4 runs Google’s Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform, but Verizon and Motorola confirm the smartphone will receive an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade soon. With Smart Actions app users will be able to automate tasks and optimize battery efficiency by setting various rules meant to save excessive battery consumption.
