Mobile phone maker Motorola Mobility has been long rumored to be on its way to bring to the market a series of new, highly appealing mobile phones that would run under Google's Android operating system, and the DROID 3 and DROID X2 are among them.

These handsets emerged quite a few times before, but nothing was confirmed on them officially, though it seems that it might not be too long before that happens.

The two handsets have been just spotted in the Best Buy system, which further confirms the upcoming availability of the two devices.

To be more specific, the DROID3 (XT862) and DROIDX2 (MB870) have been spotted in Best Buy's cellebrite systems, which means that the actual release date might not be that far at all.

The cellebrite system is used for transferring contacts and the like from an old handset to a new one, and the fact that these two smartphones emerged there suggests that Motorola is indeed gearing up for their launch.

The two handsets should be released on the airwaves of Verizon Wireless in the United States, just as the DROID, DROID 2 and DROID X before them.

However, there are not specific details available on when would that happen, nor on their possible price tags, or the exact hardware they pack inside.

Previous rumors on them suggested that Motorola might pack DROID 3 with a large 4-inch touchscreen display, a high-quality photo snapper on the back, and a front-facing camera for video calling.

DROID X2 should be equally appealing, with a dual-core application processor inside, and with increased performance capabilities, though it would not sport the front-facing camera, it seems.

However, just as stated above, nothing was confirmed on these two Android-based mobile phones as of now, and we should wait for Motorola and Verizon to make a formal announcement on them before learning what specs they would actually sport.
