Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless is gearing up for the launch of a new Android-based handset from Motorola, the long rumored DROID 3 smartphone, which has just made an appearance on the operator's website.

When going to the wireless carrier's 'Droid Does' page, users will see the new mobile phone listed there, with all of its features and specifications being presented to the world.

The Motorola DROID 3 also has a buy now button attached to it on the said website, but it is not available for purchase at the moment, nor is it official as of yet.

However, as some of the previous rumors on the matter suggested, Verizon might be set to introduce the third generation DROID as soon as today, and also to make it available via D-fill, while bringing it on shelves one week from now, on July 14th.

While no confirmation on the matter emerged for the time being, the fact that Verizon already put the DROID 3 on its website suggests that the launch is imminent.

When made available, the new DROID from Motorola will sport a price tag of $199.99 upon the signing of a two-year contract agreement.

Most of the specifications the new device arrives on shelves with were already leaked into the wild, and the new page on Verizon's website confirms that DROID 3 is a great addition to the wireless carrier's offering.

The mobile phone comes with a dual-core 1GHz application processor, along with a large 4-inch touchscreen display that can deliver a qHD resolution, and a sliding five-row QWERTY keyboard, that has a special numeric row in tow.

The Motorola DROID 3 also comes with an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with support for recording videos in full HD resolution, and also adds a front-facing camera for enabling video calling while on the go. The new handset is slimmer than previous Motorola DROID devices, lighter and more powerful, and runs under Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system.

Those who would like to have a look at the new mobile phone before Verizon makes it official should head over to the carrier's website here for that (via).
