Motorola has just announced that Android 2.2 Froyo software update is now available for download for all DEFY smartphone users in the UK.

The upgrade is compatible with all retail Motorola DEFY devices in the UK and can be installed via Motorola Software Update tool.

UK Motorola DEFY owners have been waiting a long time to have a taste of Froyo, as the U.S.-based handset manufacturer already released the major update in other regions of the world for quite some time.

Fortunately, starting today, software update v34.177.3 will bring every retail Motorola DEFY device in the UK from Android 2.1 to Android 2.2 (Froyo).

Along with the software update, users will receive several new important features, as well as performance enhancements.

As soon as the update is installed, one will be able to notice that the performance of the phone has been enhanced resulting in faster user interface, application operation and web browsing.

In addition, the DEFY will now support Adobe Flash Player 10.3, allowing access to rich web content and games.

Other important upgrades include the ability to store applications on the smartphone's microSD card, as well as the option to allow applications to be automatically updated by checking the “allow automatic updating” under each app’s page in Android Market.

Furthermore, the profiles feature has been added, which provides three customizable sets of home screens that give users quick access to the apps, shortcuts and widgets.

Dialer search is another improvement offered along with the major software update.

Users will now be able to search for certain phone numbers and contacts from the dialer screen by simply entering the first few letters of the contact’s name or first few digits of the contact’s number.

Security features, including Exchange-based encryption and password security, task manager and LinkedIn have been added as well.
