This is the only smartphone that’s eligible for the update for the moment

Motorola Mobility is one of the few handset makers that offer Android updates soon after they are released by Google. At some point, this was understandable given the fact that the company was owned by Google, but even after Lenovo purchased Motorola, the US-based company still continued to bring Android updates faster than most other handset makers.

This seems to be the case with Android L as well, which is expected to be released by Google this autumn. HTC has also announced it will offer the Android L update for its HTC One M7 and One M8 within three months since the release of the new operating system.

It appears that Motorola Mobility confirmed earlier this month that it would bring Android L to at least one of its products currently available on the market, namely the Moto X.

Motorola’s Punit Soni replied to a question related to Android L for Moto X and confirmed the update would indeed happen. The bad news is that there is no timeframe for the release of the Android L update for Motorola Moto X yet, but we expect it to be available soon after Google launches the new version of the operating system.

It’s also worth mentioning that Motorola is aware of the delays in delivering these updates due to carriers’ approval, and it has stated that it’s doing everything it can to speed up the process.

The thing is this doesn’t concern Motorola, as the company can only release the update as bug-free as possible. However, it will still take some US-based carriers a few weeks to release it, and in some cases, even more than that.

If issues are uncovered during the testing process, those who own carrier-branded Moto X devices can rest assured they will receive the update much later.

AT&T and Verizon in particular have a long history of offering these update later than other carriers around the globe, but we can only hope that this will not happen with Android L as well.

Although Punit Soni has only confirmed that Android L will arrive on Motorola Moto X at some point, we expect other Motorola smartphones to be eligible for the update as well.

Motorola Moto E, Moto G and Moto X have already received the Android 4.4.4 KitKat update before most of the other smartphones that have been confirmed to get it.

There’s a high chance that these handsets will also get the Android L update before other devices when the new OS becomes available later this autumn, but it remains to be seen which of them, aside from the Moto X, will indeed receive the update.
