If nothing wrong happens during soak tests

As many Motorola fans already know by now, the US-based company announced a few months ago that some of its older smartphones will be updated directly to Android 5.1 Lollipop.

This means that the company won't send the Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade that many of its smartphones already got a while ago.

One of the smartphones that has been promised Android 5.1 Lollipop is Motorola Moto X (1st Gen). The company announced last month that it would release the update for this device in “a few weeks.”

Android 5.1 Lollipop soak tests underway

Since we're close to the deadline, Motorola's David Schuster came forward with an official statement regarding Android 5.1 Lollipop for the original Moto X. Here are his thoughts on the long-awaited upgrade:

“We have started full soak testing in France and Germany retail this week with the expectation of full deployment next week if all goes well.

“In addition, we have addressed an issue we found in a previous soak test and should start full soak testing in the US and Brazil for retail later this week. If all goes well, full deployment can happen the following week.

“There were some questions about support for Lollipop upgrades from our carrier channels. We are in a number of the carrier labs now so we don't anticipate issues in getting the upgrades deployed. As you guys know.... the carrier channels typically take longer.”

So, if everything goes well, Moto X (1st Gen) devices should receive Android 5.1 Lollipop update in later this month. However, the actual rollout may take longer, which means users might get it as late as next month.

Anyway, we will keep an eye out for any additional details on Android 5.1 Lollipop update for Motorola Moto X (1st Gen), so stay tuned for more info on the matter.
