Columbus Geographic Systems recently announced it has successfully completed the premier stage of implementing a brand new project with Motorola, world leader in providing embedded electronic solutions and integrated communications solutions. The pilot project was implemented in a Motorola subsidiary company that provides, via a call center, navigation and location-based related information to hikers and drivers. The information is sent to customers in different ways, including by SMS or voice message on their mobile phones or directly to their in-car PC systems.

The Motorola subsidiary now uses the Columbus system to offer real-time navigation as well as location-based tourist information to its customers. Representing an important breakthrough for Motorola, the solution allows the operator to provide users with maps or aerial photographs to be used in off-road navigation. Moreover, consumers have access to a large database of tourist information about hotels, restaurants, places of entertainment and other attractions.

"One of the challenges for this project was implementing the new system without any disruption to service to Motorola's end users," said Tsvika Freidman, Chief Executive Officer of Columbus. "We are very pleased that we met this challenge and ensured a smooth transition to Columbus' new system. We view this project as a further validation of the advanced features offered by our navigation solutions and look forward to broadening our relationship with Motorola to other fields."
