Motorola has just announced that they have made another step towards developing rich Mobile Linux experiences to their customers. The company has just unveiled their new MOTOMAGX platform, with a new level of support for third-party applications.

Motorola has received a great amount of appreciation until now for its Linux-based mobile phones sold worldwide. There are nearly 10 million such handsets accounted to have been sold up to this point, which earns Motorola an important place in the Mobile Linux world.

The mobile phone producer is quite pleased with the way this sector is developing and hopes to keep growing up to 60 percent of all their devices. In this context, MOTOMAGX is only one step further in the evolution of their Linux solution.

The greatest advantage about this type of software is that it allows continuous customization even from third-party developers. MOTOMAGX currently supports applications developed in Java ME. The company also intends to introduce the new WebUI web technology in order to enable widgets and Web 2.0 experiences and offer users the best mobile solutions to their users. Motorola expects to broaden the number of native Linux application environments with the future software releases.

"At Motorola, we know that software is just as important as hardware -- through the introduction of our MOTOMAGX platform, we are reinforcing our firm commitment to Linux and empowering our developer community to innovate with us in exciting new ways", stated Alain Mutricy, senior vice president of platform technology at Motorola Mobile Devices business.

The first mobile phones to use the MOTOMAGX platform are MOTOROKR Z6 and the Motorola RAZR2 V8 handsets. Choosing Linux as the main operating system has been a wise choice coming from Nokia. This platform has managed to win over a huge market share over the past years and is predicted for an even more impressive expansion in the future. Just how good it will prove to be for Motorola too we will have to wait and see in time.
