Five new Android handsets have just become official in the United States at wireless carrier AT&T, and the Motorola ATRIX 2 was one of them.

The new device has been spotted into the wild before, and all of the specs it was rumored to pack have been confirmed via the official announcement.

For starters, we should note the fact that the new handset should arrive on the market with a dual-core application processor inside, with each core clocked in at 1GHz, and that it will also offer support for AT&T's 4G network.

The new mobile phone features a large 4.3-inch touchscreen display that can deliver a qHD (960x540 pixels) resolution, and packs 1GB of RAM, along with 8GB of internal memory and a microSD memory card slot so that users can expand the available storage by up to 32GB (a 2GB card included).

The new mobile phone also sports an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with LED flash and 1080p HD video recording capabilities, complemented by a front-facing camera great for video calling.

“The Motorola ATRIX 2 combines “extreme power” with “life of the party” all at an affordable price. Capture video in 1080p HD and display it on any size HD monitor with an HDMI cable using Mirror mode,” AT&T notes.

“With Motorola’s webtop application, you can browse the web with a full Firefox browser. Connect to the new Motorola Lapdock 100 or use the optional HD Station and browse the web on any size HD TV or monitor.

The new handset arrives on shelves with support for UMTS 850/1900/2100 bands, as well as for GSM 850/900/1800/1900 frequencies, and with 4G HSPA+ 21 Mbps (Category 14) capabilities.

Moreover, the Android 2.3 Gingerbread smartphone features WiFi and Bluetooth capabilities, along with built-in GPS receiver, IPsec VPN, and on Device Encryption (ODE) and Enhanced Exchange ActiveSync (EAS).

“While the ATRIX 2 boasts a great deal of entertainment value, features such as device and microSD card encryption, enterprise-grade VPN, enhanced Exchange options and personal information management and remote wipe make this device business-ready,” the wireless carrier also notes.
