The idea of controlling a flashlight by simply waving it around is quite a cool one, and that's probably the reason why Maglite, a well-known flashlight manufacturer, has decided to apply it to its latest model, the MAGLITE XL100.

So, what makes this thing stand out from the crowd is the fact that it sports a motion sensor, that allow users to adjust the power level in Normal mode and adjust the strobe rate settings (in Strobe mode), by simply rotating the flashlight to the left or right.

Beside this rather interesting gimmick, the XL100 also sports an Advanced Flashlight User Interface, namely a push-button tail cap switch that offers users fast and easy access to the device's 5 functioning modes (beside the Strobe and Normal modes mentioned above, the flashlight also sports SOS, Signal and Nite Lite modes).

The device has quite an OK light output (83 lumens) and can reach a maximum range of around 134 meters, which should prove to be quite enough during nighttime.

It's also important to point out that the flashlight is relatively easy to carry around, given the fact that it measures 4.8 inches (121.92 mm) in length, while its barrel and head have the same diameter, of 1 inch (or 25.4 mm), while the overall weight is restricted to just around 104 grams (3.68 ounces).

Last, but certainly not least, we'll also have to mention that the flashlight from Maglite is powered by 3 AAA alkaline batteries and sports an Intelligent Energy Source Management system that helps prolong the battery life by constantly balancing its brightness and power usage.

We'll also have to mention that the MAGLITE XL100 is actually quite an affordable product, as it sells for somewhere in the vicinity of US$32.33, which is a very small sum to pay, when compared to the features it has in store.
