Motion Computing has just announced a new performance upgrade to its F5 rugged tablet PC and the C5 Mobile Clinical Assistant, further enhancing the capabilities of the company's successful products. According to the PC vendor, the two systems have been upgraded with a new processor, better WiFi capabilities and even a new 64GB solid state drive (SSD). In addition, the F5 rugged tablet has now been featured with a black exterior for better protection against dirty and dusty mobile work environments. All of these upgrades are meant to provide the company's customers with higher-performance systems that also boast an ultraportable form factor.

According to Mobile Computing, its C5 and F5 products now boast Intel's WiFi Link 5300-series chip, enabling support for 802.11 a/g/draft-n wireless connectivity. In addition, these two systems have been equipped with Intel's Centrino technology, boasting a higher-performance Core 2 Duo processor. Finally, the C5 and F5 are now featured with a 64GB SSD, further improving the performance and the battery life of the portable PC. With these upgrades Motion Computing also announced that a new battery charger was available for the C5 and the F5, enabling a faster charge of batteries.

“Vaillant has seen a significant improvement in field worker productivity with the use of Motion tablets, and we’re excited about these new features that enhance both durability and performance,” said Klaus Walder, project manager at Vaillant, an international heating, ventilation and air-conditioning technology company. “The black exterior and the SSD will help further protect the devices as our field technicians work outside and in harsh environments.”

Motion Computing's C5 product has been designed as the industry's first MCA developed in collaboration with Intel, while the F5 is meant to provide users with a rugged tablet PC that provides electronic clipboard functionality.
