The community in Roseville, Michigan believes that the message hits too close to home

A mother and daughter costume debuted for a Halloween party at an elementary school in the Detroit area has drawn criticism.

The unnamed pair have donned white garbage bags with the writing "white trash" scribbled in black marker on them.

They have been caught on camera at the Huron Park Elementary "Trunk or Treat" party in Roseville, Michigan. Parents were upset because the mother made the child wear the costume.

The mother was asked about the outfit and she refused to take it off, NY Daily News writes. The principal is complaining about not being able to make parents follow the same rules that kids do.

"Roseville is known for 'white trash' and you just don't do that at a kids function. You can't have weapons; you can't have blood; you can't have gory stuff, but racial slurs? Go right ahead!" parent Megan Manchenko says.

I do not agree that the Caucasian women were making a statement about race. Leave your opinion in the comments area.
