Rapper and actor Mos Def, who these days is going by the name of Yasiin Bey, has been denied entry to the United States, despite being a native, just ahead of his upcoming tour.

NME reports that the rapper was supposed to start touring the US but was denied entry in the country by Immigration Services. The Together Music Festival in Boston reported on this strange development by informing on their website: “We regret to inform you that due to immigration/legal issues Yasiin Bey is unable to enter back into the United States and his upcoming tour has been cancelled.”

Though he was born in America and has lived in-country for many years, Mos Def decided to move to South Africa. At the time of the move, he told Rolling Stone Magazine that “I lived in Brooklyn 33 years of my life. I thought I'd be buried in that place. And around seven years ago, I was like, you know, ‘I gotta go, I gotta leave.’ It's very hard to leave.”

Immigration was one of the subjects Mos Def, aka Yasiin Bey, has covered in his songs, such as “Mr [N-word],” in which he can be heard rapping “But I go over seas and I get over-seized/London, Heathrow, me and my people/They think that illegal's a synonym for negro.”

There is still no information as to why the American native was denied entry in the country, but the story is still developing.
