NetherRealm Studios unveiled the first footage of Kitana and Reptile during their livestream last night, showing how the two characters look in the upcoming Mortal Kombat X.

The upcoming brawler is set to feature around 30 different fighters, and to introduce the most new characters to the series in a single video game so far.

The developers showed off Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Kano, Quan Chi, Kung Lao, Reptile, Kitana and Ermac as returning characters, and Cassie Cage, D'Vorah, Ferra/Torr, and Kotal Kahn as completely new ones.

Goro will also be a fully playable character in the game, only available to those who pre-order Mortal Kombat X.

The gameplay videos shown so far look really brutal, and the game will also introduce some interesting novel mechanics, such as each of the fighters having three slight variations that alter their playing style, enabling users to emphasize their favorite feature of any one character.

A pretty exciting game so far

The latest reveal comes in the form of Kitana and Reptile's complete move sets, showcasing a deadly match between the two, including their gruesome x-ray moves and graphic fatalities.

In addition to this, two more returning characters were teased by the studio, more explicitly Sonya Blade and Jax, but for the time being, there is no official word on whether or not they would be included in the game.

NetherRealm has also revealed recently that Mortal Kombat X will have a pretty active multiplayer / social component, in the form of Faction Wars, with players joining one of the five in-game factions and then contributing to the cause through their actions, even when playing through the single-player story mode.

Mortal Kombat X is scheduled for release on April 14, 2015, headed to Windows PC, the Xbox 360 and Xbox One computer entertainment systems from Microsoft, and to the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 home consoles from Sony.
