Morningstar, an important provider of research data on investment offerings, has recently announced the release of its first Android application. The software helps investors keep track of their portfolios, as well as monitor the stock markets while on the go.

True to its customers, the company also announced that its Android app shares the major features of other Morningstar.com mobile applications, including investment ideas, company information and tickers, a quick search function, as well as the option to view Morningstar's ratings for stocks and funds.

“Being on the go shouldn't keep an investor from accessing the Morningstar data, research, and analysis needed to help make better investment decisions,” said Kunal Kapoor, president of individual software at Morningstar.

“We've worked with our customers to deliver a mobile app for Android that meets their needs and offers new functionality in addition to the popular features of our Apple and BlackBerry mobile applications.”

Some of the key features of the application include:

- Gain access to the Morningstar Market Barometer and data on the major Morningstar categories; - Research Canadian securities; - Track gainers, losers, and most actives in U.S. Indexes; - Log in for Premium analyst research; - Create and edit Morningstar.com watch lists; - View Morningstar Ratings.

With the release of the Android version of Mornigstar.com, the company now has mobile apps available for all three major mobile device platforms. Morningstar has previously launched the iPhone app in 2009 and the BlackBerry version in spring 2010.

Morninstar.com is compatible with all devices running Android 1.5 or newer and can be downloaded for free from the Android Market or from Morningstar's website.

As a side note, the company is currently working on the iPad version of the application, which is scheduled to be released during the first half of 2011.
