More than 40,000 video game players who are fans of the PC have asked publisher Namco Bandai via an online petition to create an official port of the Dark Sould action role playing game, which has gained a dedicated hardcore following on home consoles.

The move was sparked by a comment from shoupinou, who is a staff member at Namco Bandai, who suggested that fans should organize to get the publisher to consider their request.

He stated that a petition would be the way to go but warned “When the number of people who actually sign it is low, this turn a joke. But when it starts to involve thousand(s) people, then it’s another story. Honestly, I think this is an interesting request and that it deserves to be pushed.”

He added, “Namco have no position for now on this topic: PC versions are considered for many games but as PC is rarely the lead platform for the games released by the company, making PC version very often depends on signs that could come from users or from market globally. Up to you.”

Dark Souls was launched on the PlayStation 3 from Sony and the Xbox 360 from Microsoft in October 2011 and has since then managed to ship more than 1.5 million copies before the end of November.

The game has been praised for the finely balanced combat mechanics that form the core of its experience and gamers have respected the game for its level of difficulty, which manages to turn each encounter with an enemy into a challenge without ever making the player feel cheated.

Dark Souls is seen as a sort of successor to Demon’s Souls, which was similar in its level of challenge, and Namco Bandai has indicated that it could deliver similar titles in the future.

A PC port of Dark Souls would probably take a number of months to be completed even if the publisher is convinced that its existence is worth it.
