Especially in Ireland and Colombia

Facebook is one of the top services when it comes to social networking technologies with approximately 250,000 new users every day. But have you ever asked yourself how many of the total number of Facebook members are women and how many are men? If yes, I have some interesting statistics for you provided by blogger Paul Francis. "Out of interest I went through the Facebook ad platform to pull together some stats on relative numbers of members from each country. Not surprisingly, the US represents over 40% of the total membership at just over 18 million. Some surprises though (at least to me), with Turkey in 5th place," he wrote on his blog.

According to the blogger, United States brings the biggest number of members to Facebook with no less than 18,071,000 users. 7,249,020 of them (40.11 percent) are men while 10,822,680 (59.89 percent) are women. United Kingdom and Canada come on the next places with 6,825,860 and 6,650,860 users. The percentage of women is also higher than that of men with 64.30 and 66.55 points.

The countries with the highest percentage of female members are Colombia and Ireland where Facebook attracted no less than 355,420 and 121,800 women. Sure, the total number of females is not even close to the one recorded by the United States but the percentage is bigger: 72.75 points for Colombia and 72.69 points for Ireland.

The last two places were 'won' by Korea and the Dominican Republic which attracted only 55,060 and 32,100 users to the social network.

Now, here comes a question: how many of these profiles are real and how many of them were created for pranks, spamming or advertising? Because I saw many users complaining about spamming members which I'm sure are also included in this piece of statistics. In addition, there were reports about Facebook profiles that were created by some people in order to pretend to be another person and set up a prank to one of their friends.
