High heels come with health risks that experts constantly stress, from back pain, to pain in the ball of the foot and sores. Because their love for towering heels can at times be something that they can’t – or don’t wish to – resist, more and more women are turning to the wonders of modern medicine and have the balls of their feet injected with collagen filler to reduce the pain that appears once spending too much time in heels, the Daily Mail says.

Because the winter holiday season has officially begun, women know they have more social events to attend which, of course, means, more time spent in high heels. Dancing aside, the very act of standing while wearing uncomfortable shoes can mean a lot of pain felt mostly in the ball of the foot, for which reason women are taking action to prevent it. Cosmetic surgeons at the Harley Medical Group report a five-fold increase in the number of women asking for the procedure this year.

“Patients commonly have pre-Christmas fillers and treatments in the run-up to Christmas, to get them camera-ready for the festive season. But this year we have received increased enquiries for foot fillers to pad out the ball of the foot to reduce the pain cause by more vertiginous heels.” Dr. Nick Milojevic of the Harley Medical Group says for the Mail. Costing £240 for a pair and lasting up to three months before the collagen is broken down by the body, the injectable fillers are seen as the hottest option available right now.

“Foot fillers have been popular in America, but are only just taking off here, as women realize that non-surgical treatments can help them with more than just their appearance. When they put on their shoe, the transformation is immediate and they feel more comfortable and more able to dance or mingle the night away. The injections are integral padding and last just the right amount of time for the party season. Though there’s nothing to stop women having top-ups to keep the comfort going,” Liz Dale, the group’s director, also explains for the same publication.

So, what women get for £240 is natural padding for their sore feet, which enables them not only to wear sky-high heels but also to last the entire night in them, even when there’s no chair to be had. After three months of walking as if on air, women will want to return for another injection, doctors believe based on the tendency noticeable today.
