One of the features that the new Windows Phone 8.1 operating system will arrive on devices with will be a brand-new version of the default browser, Internet Explorer 11, which will be able to provide users with an original experience when it comes to web browsing.

Packed with a great deal of new capabilities, Internet Explorer 11 in Windows Phone 8.1 will bring mobile browsing closer to what desktop users can enjoy at the moment.

For example, the application will allow users to easily pin favorite websites to the Start Screen as Live Tiles, for faster access to them.

However, unlike Windows Phone 8, where the Live Tile was static, the new OS version will feature dynamic Tiles for pinned sites, just as Windows 8.1 does on tablets, laptops and desktops, as WMPoweruser notes.

Microsoft has already published details on what web developers and admins need to do in order to enable the feature for their sites, on this page. You can also go to Channel9 to learn more on the matter.

The best part of the deal is that developers won’t need to implement the feature twice in order to have it available on both desktops and mobile phones. Windows and Windows Phone will both support the feature once it is implemented.

However, this is not the only appealing feature that Internet Explorer 11 in Windows Phone 8.1 will inherit from the desktop counterpart.

The browser will also provide users with the possibility to easily move to the previous or the next page through the use of gestures, something that IE in Windows 8 has had for some time now. The video embedded below will offer a better look at the feature in action.

On top of that, the mobile browser will arrive on devices with a File Picker packed inside, which will allow users to download files and have them opened with specific third-party apps at a later date.

As WMPoweruser notes, Windows Phone 8.1 does not comes with a File Manager packed inside, but the File Picker should supplement that successfully. Through it, files will be opened automatically with the applications that support their specific format, without too much of a hassle.

Beside Internet Explorer 11, the new mobile operating system version will provide users with a series of UI enhancements, a better Windows Phone Store, updated Music and Videos apps, and with a personal digital assistant called Cortana.

Microsoft has not provided specific info on when Windows Phone 8.1 starts arriving on devices, but it has said that users should expect an upgrade to it in the coming months.
