Sony is really pushing hard to get some more successful stories for the PlayStation Portable. The handheld is selling well, just behind the Nintendo DS in Japan and currently has two games in the top two positions in the Japanese videogame chart, but in the West, the Nintendo DS is dominant and the PSP is seeing less than stellar game releases.

Patapon 2 is one of the most interesting games that should come to the platform in the coming months. Although no clear date has been offered by Sony, the company is willing to share with potential players and with long time fans the story that is set to unfold in the upcoming game.

Patapon 2 should begin just where the first game in the series left off. As the Patapons arrive at the edge of their small island in their first game, they are set to continue their quest for Earthend by taking to the high seas, facing both tempests and sea monsters in their quest. One encounter with a monster leaves the Patapons stranded on an island inhabited by Karmens, who are the main antagonists in the second game in the series.

Patapon can be described as a rhythm action game. Basically, players have to use music to order the Patapons around and make them fight their enemies. The game is set to offer more than twice the content of the initial title, introducing Toripon, who are flying bird riders, the Robopon mech warriors and the Mahopon magician. There's also a Hero Patapon that can be customized and the players will find a lot more unique Patapon and weapons for the various squads that can be created.

Patapon 2 should also bring multiplayer to the series via a feature called Game Sharing. Up to four persons can join in as players go head to head rather than fighting against the computer.
