14 DAY TRIAL // Verbatim has recently launched its new series of external HDDs on the market. Available on 2.5" and 3.5" formats, the new hard-disk drives provide between 120GB and 500GB of storage capacity. The 2.5" models are available with USB 2.0 connectivity, while the 3.5" ones are both USB and FireWire compatible. These hard-disks are both fashionable and easy to use for anyone, as they offer plug and play compatibility, and no installation to use them is required. Their aluminum casing provides a great protection against bumps or hits.
The 2.5" offers an easy and reliable solution to have your data with you all the time. The small format of the hard-drive makes it even more enjoyable. The storage capacities for the USB 2.0 compatible HDDs are 120GB, 160GB and 250GB. There is also a 160GB HDD available in the FireWire format. During the following months, Verbatim plans on releasing a 2.5" 320GB External HDD, both USB and FireWire compatible. The storage capacity of any desktop or laptop can be expanded this way to fulfill your needs.
The 3.5" HDD features a 350GB storage capacity and is a UBS/FireWire Combo. It allows you to run even the most demanding applications at almost the same speed as with an internal drive, as it is a 7200RPM HDD. The power supply can be a +5VDC or a +12VCD input one. The performance that it offers is quite a high one and it can be used both by home users or by professionals ones. Verbatim promises 750GB and 1TB models to be launched in April or May. If you have a PC running Windows or a MAC running Mac OS X 10.1 or higher, you can enjoy the features of this HDD.
Data transfer rate featured by these HDDs is another strong argument in their favor. The FireWire models reach a maximum of 400Mb/s, while the USB 2.0 models reach 480Mb/s. If used on a UBS 1.1 port, the HDD features a full speed of 12Mb/s. The 2.5" models feature 5400RPM rotation speed and 8MB cache. These palm-sized models weight only 180 grams and are powered through the USB port. Both 2.5" and 3.5" HDD models are already available through authorized resellers.
