The nearing launch of one of the most anticipated mobile phones of the year, the Palm Pre, has led to a wide range of rumors regarding the possible date when Sprint, the carrier that will have it exclusively in the US, plans on making the handset available. Rumors and reports on a possible price tag the Pre will feature have surfaced into the wild as well lately, and there are also some pieces of news on the functionality and features of the device that need to be taken into consideration.

One of them surfaced recently on insidesprintnow, and unveils a few of the handset’s capabilities in a Q&A form. Among the things that weren't known already we can mention free backup for the device, which is reported to come as part of the service Palm included with the Pre. In addition, it seems that at launch the phone will include support for two IM services, namely Google Talk (GTalk) and AIM. Moreover, the handset will also feature support for multiple IM sessions that run on it at the same time, meaning that users will be able to talk to more than one person at the same time.

Other features that will also come with the Palm Pre include support for Office 2007 files, though it is not certain at this moment whether it will also include editing options, or merely viewing ones. Hopefully all options will be included, and customers will be able to work on the Pre like on their computers.

The Pre is also reported to offer its owners the possibility to use music/MP3 files as ringtones for the handset, while other capabilities like MMS support, calendar features or web browser functionalities have been presented already. And the same applies to the user interface the Pre will come with, or to the multitasking capabilities it includes. All that remains to be done now it for the phone to come to the market, so that users will be able to enjoy it.
