Ubisoft has shared some more details about the upcoming Assassin’s Creed III adventure game, this time confirming some of the rumors and leaks we already saw appear late last week, while officially announcing that the title is going to arrive on the Nintendo Wii U, alongside other platforms.

Assassin’s Creed III marks a new stage for the franchise made by Ubisoft, bringing a new character and a new historical setting, not to mention a whole new graphics engine and plenty of other improvements over its predecessors.

After several leaks, as well as the official reveals of its cover and its first trailer, Ubisoft has now started confirming more details about the game.

"Assassin's Creed III features the franchise's most expansive setting so far, along with an exciting new hero and exponentially more gameplay," said Yves Guillemot, chief executive officer at Ubisoft. "Whether you're a longtime fan of Assassin's Creed or if you're new to the franchise, you're going to be blown away by the scale and marvel of Assassin's Creed III."

The French has company also confirmed that the game is powered by a new version of its Anvil engine, called AnvilNext, which can display better graphics, improved character models, and smarter artificial intelligence mechanics.

Players will control Connor, a protagonist who has a Native American mother and a British father. Raised by the Mohawk tribe under the name of Ratohnaké:ton (pronounced as Ra-doon-ha-gay-doo), he will help the Assassins try to defeat the evil Templars.

“Players become an Assassin in the war for liberty against ruthless tyranny in the most stylized and fluid combat experiences in the franchise to date,” the company said. “Assassin's Creed III spans the Revolutionary War, taking gamers from the vibrant, untamed frontier to bustling colonial towns and the intense, chaotic battlefields where George Washington's Continental Army clashed with the imposing British Army.”

What’s more, Ubisoft also confirmed that Assassin’s Creed III is going to arrive not just on the PC, PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360, but also on the upcoming Nintendo Wii U at the end of October.

More details are certain to arrive later this year, probably around E3 2012.
