Just a few days ago, a device codenamed “Flounder” was spotted in the Chrome bug report. Since Google usually uses codenames for its products internally, it was assumed this was the Nexus 8/9. The theory stems from the fact the previous Nexus 7 (2013) tablet was codenamed “Flo.”

But today we get even more proof that the next-gen Nexus tablet is coming. The folks over at xda-developers dug a little further and stumbled upon an Android 4.4.3 changelist code line that says “project device/htc/flounder.”

So, there you have it, more proof that the next Nexus tablet will be made by HTC, just like rumors have been saying all along. Also, some evidence of another device coming from Google, codenamed “Molly,” was also uncovered.

The HTC-made Nexus 8/9 is expected to come bundling premium features and arrive with a higher price-tag. The tablet will probably be unveiled as soon as this summer, most likely alongside the new Android 4.5 OS version.

HTC has been known for its stylish devices and a tablet coming from the company has been long overdue, so it’s pretty exciting to get further confirmation the next Nexus tablet will be coming from the company.
