Ivy Bridge-E will be for Intel Haswell what Sandy Bridge-E is for Ivy Bridge: the enthusiast-grade, superpowered computing platform that only the rich and the performance-obsessed will seek out.

What we have up there and in the gallery below are the latest benchmark performance slides that have leaked on the web.

The folk at Tom's Hardware are the ones who we are directing our thanks towards this time around.

The charts compare processors like the Intel i7-3970X, i7-4770K, i7-3770K and i7-2700K, and the AMD FX-8350, and A10-5800K.

The i7-4960X seems to be just 5% faster than the i7-3970X, at best, but it also has a big advantage over quad-core units (it is a 6-core chip itself), thanks to twelve SMT threads.

That doesn't mean there are no improvements though. In fact, the energy efficiency is much higher, with the TDP at 130W, owed to the move from 32nm to 22nm.
