As the 802.11 draft n standard of wireless networking will most likely become the most widespread, an increasingly higher number of companies have begun to develop and launch various networking devices that comply with the specifications set by the respective standard. And of the latest companies to make such an announcement is SMC Networks, who has just rolled out the Barricade N Draft 11n Broadband Router and the EZ Connect N Draft 11n Wireless USB2.0 Adapter, which can prove to be quite helpful in setting up a fast and reliable wireless network.

According to the company, both of these new products are Wi-Fi certified for full compliance with the 802.11n draft v2.0 standard, as well as the 802.11g and 802.11b standards. Furthermore, they employ MIMO (Multiple-In, Multiple-Out) technology, which allows them to provide enhanced ranges and data transfer speeds.

And since we're on the subject of data transfers, it's quite important to mention the fact that the networks set up using the new 802.11n-compatible devices can attain wireless speeds up to 300Mbps and up to 4 times the coverage of their 802.11b/g counterparts, which makes them a very good solution for sharing Internet connections and files, video, audio, documents and data without wires.

The multi-functional router combines a 4-port 10/100 LAN switch, high-speed Wireless-N (draft 802.11n) access point, protection from hackers via a NAT firewall with Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) and Web-based management interface in one convenient device. For security, the SMCWBR14S-N2 supports the latest WPA and WPA2 wireless encryption standards, which prevent unauthorized access to wireless networks to keep data secure. Wireless security can also be set up easily using Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS), which enables push button or PIN configuration. Access Control allows parents to block certain Websites, limit Web access by time, day or dates, and/or to block Internet access for certain applications, like P2P utilities or games.

"802.11n is well-suited to home use because of its extended range, enhanced performance, and ability to overcome dead spots," said James Harris, Product Manager, SMC Networks. 'Upgrading to Wireless-N makes browsing the Internet and sharing files such as video, music and photos a breeze; and this solution does it easily, quickly and efficiently, so users gain the speed and range advantages of 802.11n wireless at an affordable price.'

The two new networking products from SMC Networks will retail for around $59.99 and $39.99, respectively, which makes them quite affordable, especially taking into account the enhanced features they can provide.
