Monument Valley developer Ustwo has made some rather interesting reveals about their hit mobile puzzle game, among which the fact that it grossed nearly $6 / €5.1 million.

The game offers an interesting melange of minimalist aesthetic and M. C. Escher's plays on perspective, and follows the story of a princess through a maze of optical illusions and impossible geometry.

The gameplay shares many similarities to the PlayStation Portable hit Echochrome, as twisting the architectural elements and moving them around can enable you to traverse seemingly inaccessible paths.

Monument Valley is considered one of the best mobile games of 2014, showing that a dedicated team with a sound artistic direction and interesting gameplay ideas can generate a premium product that is able to compete on a market saturated with free-to-play games.

The development company has disclosed that Monument Valley sold 2.44 million units worldwide, across iOS and Android, making it a huge hit and bringing in some healthy return on the initial investment.

The studio reported that it generated revenues of $5.86 / €5.04 million from the mobile game, outlining a very good financial picture for Ustwo.

A healthy financial picture

The total development costs for Monument Valley and its expansion, Forgotten Shores, amounted to $1.4 / €1.2 million. Ustwo broke down the figure, showing that the original game took 55 weeks and $852k / €733k to make, while the expansion took 29 weeks and $549k / €472k.

The developer reports that the game has been installed on 10 million devices so far, with iPhone and iPad being the dominant platforms. Furthermore, nearly 82 percent of the total revenue comes from iOS.

The team published some fancy infographics showing all this data, which you can find in the gallery below.
