It is as big as a smartphone and can act as go-between for storage units and CE devices

There are plenty of types of storage devices, portable or otherwise, so many that consumer electronics and PCs have a hard time integrating interfaces for them all, so Monster Digital decided to offer a go-between.

Said go-between is called Mobile Personal Cloud and is essentially a rectangular device that allows portable storage devices to be accessed wirelessly.

The device is like a smartphone in shape, but doesn't have any storage space of its own. Instead, it's a Wi-Fi modem, of sorts, for USB flash drives, memory cards, portable HDDs and SSDs, etc.

The Mobile Personal Cloud has dedicated ports for SD and microSD cards with capacities of up to 64 GB, and a USB connector for the rest. A micro-USB port is included as well.

Once a storage device is connected, smartphones, tablets and anything else featuring Wi-Fi can access the files on it, or them if more than one is plugged in.

An app will have to be installed for it, but that's okay because it's a free download (for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch on the App Store and for Android devices on Google Play). Pretty much all devices, connectivity bridges in particular, need software like that to work after all.

The Wi-Fi band used is the normal 2.4 GHz (b/g/n), but it's encrypted. PCs and Mac systems are eligible for connections, just like mobile devices.

What's more, up to five devices (you and yours friends' phones for example) can stream 720p video off them at the same time, or three at 1080 pixels. Sharing pictures and documents is just as easy.

Everything is enabled by an on-board 2000 mAh battery, which should be able to last for five hours on a single charge while streaming video. You can charge other devices via USB too if you need it.

Finally, the Monster Mobile Personal Cloud has an Ethernet port, allowing it to act as a Wi-Fi hotspot (provides wireless Internet to connected users). The price is of $99.99 / €99.99.
