Network Security Toolkit, a bootable ISO live CD based on Fedora Linux, designed to provide easy access to best-of-breed Open Source Network Security Applications that should run on most x86 platforms, is now at version 18-5413.

The distribution is based on the Fedora 18 operating system, which has been integrating updates since April 13, 2013.

“This is an interim release which includes all of the NST and Fedora 18 package updates since "2013-Apr-13" rolled into a fresh ISO image. If you are building your own NST YUM repository or have a subscription to the NST PRO YUM repository, you do not need this ISO image. You can simply ‘yum update’ your NST system(s),” reads the official announcement.

One of the most interesting features in this latest version is the introduction of the NST WUI Network Interface Bandwidth Monitor 2, which allows for different graph monitor views, fine-grain data rate measurements, data rate capture while a monitor is paused, historical review or data analysis from a monitor collected on a different NST system, and much more.

Highlights of Network Security Toolkit 8-5413:

• The next generation ntop application has been added. According to the developers, Ntopng is a network traffic probe used for high-speed web-based traffic analysis and flow collection; • A new NST WUI Geolocation Application called “Ntopng IPv4 Hosts” has been added; • Several new tools have been added to the NST WUI that allow users to convert files to different formats; • A new tool has been added to the NST WUI that allows users to easily browse the RPM packages installed on the system; • The networking and security applications included in the distribution have been updated; • A lot of smaller changes have been implemented.
