Every woman wants to go back to her pre-pregnancy body as soon as possible after giving birth – but they should also aspire to do it without risking their or their baby’s health. Because of how quickly celebrities get back in top shape, a new worrying trend is picking up with new moms.

Some experts and the Daily Mail name it “mommyrexia,” which would be defined, as its name implies, by a tendency in new moms to lose weight quickly by excessive workouts and diets, both during pregnancy and right after giving birth.

Stars like celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe (pictured), Victoria Beckham, January Jones or Heidi Klum not only keep their weight under control while with child by working out until the last days of the pregnancy, but they also shift back to their previous weight in almost no time.

Coming to support this trend – and women’s desire to lose the pregnancy pounds ASAP – are sports resellers and gyms, who are quick to capitalize on the latter for an extra buck, the Mail notes.

Moreover, established maternity labels are shrinking sizes on their clothing items, also in a bid to get with the trend and cater to the needs of pregnant women who are getting smaller by the day.

Just look at Victoria Beckham, who is 8 months pregnant now and is barely showing, not to mention that she doesn’t seem to have gained any weight at all.

“Beckham’s in her eighth month now, and looking too thin continues to be part of [her] plan – healthy or not. She hasn’t been looking as vibrant - pale face, dull eyes and more drained,” Manhattan dietitian Lisa Cohn says.

“If her extreme post-baby weight-loss plan of shedding 20lb in a short period is true, it sends a dangerous message to other women out there,” Cohn points out.

Psychiatrist Isaac Herschkopf adds that “women whose beauty is part of their allure” are most at risk with these new trend.

“It’s a vicious cycle – who are worried about losing their husbands, and will ignore the baby and even come to resent the baby,” he underlines.
