In the United Kingdom

The biggest entertainment release of all time is not allowing itself to drop out of the top videogames chart in the United Kingdom. For the second week in a row Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, created by Infinity Ward and published by Activsion, managed to hold on to number one even as some pretty impressive titles were released from Ubisoft and from Nintendo.

Assassin's Creed 2, the action adventure game featuring the Renaissance and the suave protagonist Ezio, sits in second spot on the first week on sales and has the potential to actually topple Modern Warfare 2 next week, if the trends hold. Meanwhile the Nintendo made New Super Mario Bros for the Wii home gaming console has debuted in third spot and, given the usual staying power of the high profile Nintendo releases, we might find it around the same spot this time next year.

Wii Sports Resort has slid down two places to four, followed by another Nintendo release, Wii Fit Plus, which takes number five and seals the domination of its publisher on the upper half of the chart. FIFA 10 from EA Sports hangs on to number six and manages to prove the most long lasting of the various football themed titles released during the last few months. Left 4 Dead 2, from developer Valve and publisher Electronic Arts, has managed to debut at number 7, from where it displaced Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games from SEGA.

Forza Motorsport 3 from Microsoft has gone down four places, from 5 to 9, while the top ten is sealed up by LEGO Batman: The Videogames, from Warner Bros Interactive. The new LEGO Indiana Jones title only launched in 16th place while Dragon Age: Origins is continuing its slow slide out of the top twenty, alongside Need for Speed: Shift.
