Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is now out and while fans of the series are busy going through the single player and gaining the first ranks in multiplayer, industry watchers are eager to see how its rivalry with Battlefield 3, the DICE made and Electronic Arts published FPS, plays out.

But at least one high level executive believes that success for both games is a good thing for the gaming industry and for the first person shooter genre.

Mark Rubin, who is an executive producer working on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, told Eurogamer that, “When both games succeed it’s better for the industry as a whole. It’s not just us – we want the gaming industry to succeed because the better the gaming industry does the better we all do. We root for everybody.”

He added, “Honestly, it’s the fans you want to listen to. They’re gamers, they’re going to play both games, both games are great. Much respect for everyone involved on the DICE side and I think they feel the same way with us. We’re friends with them. It’s not what they portray on the EA side.”

After Battlefield 3 was officially announced, publisher Electronic Arts launched an aggressive campaign, first saying that it planned to get the first person shooter crown from Activision and then talking about how it planned to get a significant part of the market this year and beat Call of Duty in 2012.

Since then the two teams have talked about how they play each other's games and respect the effort they have put in while publishers have continued to battle via statements.

Battlefield 3 debuted to good reviews a few weeks ago and has sold more than 5 million units since then while Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is now out and expected to dominate 2011 sales.
