One of the main sources of information on the future of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has suggested that the first person shooter might soon get a number of new multiplayer games modes as both Infinity Ward and Activision Blizzard work to make the game attractive in the long term.

[ADMARk=1]A Twitter message from Robert Bowling, who is the creative officer at developer Infinity Ward, reads “Ready for new game modes for Modern Warfare 3?” and was then followed by “I’ve got some surprises for you for the weekend. I’ll confirm full details tomorrow!”

The developer would offer no more details, even after a number of fans directly asked him what he was talking about and what kind of game modes Modern Warfare 3 might receive.

Recently Infinity Ward started handing out 5,000 day bans to those who are caught cheating in Modern Warfare 3, in an effort to make sure that the multiplayer environment remains competitive.

The game topped the NPD Group compiled sales chart for the month of November but it slipped from the top position in the United Kingdom weekly chart, which might mean that it will lose sales before the year is over.

Activision is keen on making the game relevant for as long as possible and delivering DLC content and introducing new game modes represent the best way to do this.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is officially the most successful video game of the year, managing to sell 1 billion dollars (769.5 million Euro) worth of video game during its first 16 days on sale, more than the biggest movies to come out of Hollywood this year.

It’s closest rival has been Battlefield 3 from DICE and Electronic Arts, which apparently managed to take some market share away from Modern Warfare 3 without actually threatening its dominant position.
