In the United Kingdom

Videogame releases have come and gone and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 from Infinity Ward and Activision seems to be impossible to budge from the top spot in the United Kingdom videogaming chart. Some are looking to the release of Mass Effect 2, the space-based role playing experience from BioWare and Electronic Arts as the videogame that might take down Modern Warfare 2 but until then, the shooter is reigning supreme.

Second spot in the chart goes to Assassin's Creed 2 from Ubisoft, one of the few big games that maintained their release date in the face of the behemoth and was rewarded with a string of second places.

The game went up one place and is being hard pressed by another upward mover, Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games from SEGA, which is benefiting from the arrival of the real world Olympic events. Wii Sports Resort from Nintendo stays put at number four, showing the same selling power as the original Wii Sports, while another sequel, Wii Fit Plus, is going up one place to five from six.

FIFA 10, the football simulation from EA Sports, is sliding down to number five coming from second spot, while Just Dance, a casual title from Ubisoft, has jumped up no less than five places to seven, maybe on the strength of New Year's celebrations.

New Super Mario Bros. for the Wii, which is dominating Japan yet again, only came in at eight in the United Kingdom, followed by Mario Kart Wii and by Avatar: The Videogame from Ubisoft, which debuted lower in the chart but jumped up because of the success of the James Cameron 3D movie. With end of the year awards being rolled out, big 2009 releases like Uncharted 2 and Batman: Arkham Asylum have returned to the top 20, although probably on a temporary basis.
