Modeo, a mobile broadcast affiliate of Crown Castle International, and Penthera Technologies have announced that they have entered an Engineering Services Agreement through which they are aiming to enhance Modeo's Mobile TV service capabilities. The agreement follows a previous one that the two companies signed during the CTIA event in March this year on Mobile Broadcast Platform Version 2.0.

Included in the recently signed agreement are components of the Mobile Broadcast Platform 2.0 and upgrades to Modeo's broadcast head end, development of the Mediacast Server or improvements to the UI of Modeo's smartphones. According to Modeo, the implementation of the software enhancements should result in a rich suite of features and functionality that are meant to improve the user's overall experience.

The improvements will also provide the company with the possibility of offering DVR recording functionality. Digital Video Recording functionality enables users to record as well as store their favorite programs directly on their mobile phone, pause, rewind or fast forward both live and content stored on their handsets and even broadcast their own content.

"The recently compiled feedback from Modeo's commercial quality beta service in New York has affirmed users' preference and appetite for live, high quality mobile TV. In addition, users expressed a desire to augment the live experience with broad and personalized programming selections," commented Michael Ramke, president of Modeo. "We believe the service enhancements enabled by the Penthera 2.0 broadcast solution will help position Modeo to effectively deliver on the broad opportunity of mobile TV."

Modeo is one of the pioneering companies of mobile TV in the US, having rolled out the first commercial quality live mobile TV beta service in New York. The two companies have signed an agreement and are working together to push mobile TV forward and deliver a more personalized, interactive mobile TV service to users.
