Former Sports Illustrated model and actress Angie Everhart will be going under the knife today after having been diagnosed with thyroid cancer, her rep confirms for ABC News after word of it got out online, sending fans in a frenzy of speculation.

Had not the news leaked, perhaps Everhart would have said nothing on the topic.

On the bright side, her rep stresses that her prognosis is very good, which means she’ll be back on mom duties in no time.

“Word has been trickling out about supermodel/actress Angie Everhart’s health,” the publicist says in the statement.

“She wants to set the record straight by letting everyone know that it is true that she has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer, however, the prognosis is very good,” he adds.

Everhart will have surgery today, Tuesday, and she “expects to be back to work and to mommy duties in a few weeks,” her publicist says.

In the same statement, he thanks the fans who, the instant they heard the rumor of the cancer diagnosis, rushed on social media to get in touch with her and send her their well-wishes and prayers.

ABC News points out that Everhart’s Twitter feed may provide further clues as to how she’s been dealing with the cancer diagnosis, that is, at least until she decides to talk openly on the topic – if ever.

“I’m reflecting on my life these days … I have been sooo lucky, super happy, but nothing beats being a MOM!! I love you Kayden!!” she wrote on May 10, as cited by the same media outlet.

Angie is a single mother to the 3-year-old Kayden Bobby.

“The most important reason she is revealing this information is to encourage people to learn about cancer prevention, its signs and treatment immediately,” her rep concludes by saying.
