The question is "will it appear in the App Store?"

Last week we reported that folks at iPhone Hellas had blown the whistle on the release date for iPhone OS 2.2. The news attracted both positive and negative feedback from readers. Some of our commenters expressed their lack of hope for MMS making its way onto the iPhone, with the arrival of the iPhone 2.2 software. Therefore, we did some digging up, and what we found was that Mobispine is on track to offer up MMS for you guys, under the form of an app, downloadable via the iTunes App Store.

Softpedia reader Funky Frank proposed: “Lets get back to basics here, proper text message functions, like forward, and MMS. Less Safari crashes this time would be nice, Better capabilities of the Bluetooth adapter.” The guy couldn't be more right, according to reader Sting, who believed that “Basic Fwd functions would be nice, as well as MMS. I like the video ideas as well, instead of just pictures,” he wrote.

Mobispine claims it wants to offer a white-label MMS app for iPhone operators all over the world. The app that would be loaded on iPhones integrates with the address book, camera and photo browser, adding a “send by MMS option” to each, according to the company's official announcement.

“Mobispine continues its strong track record of innovation, and is proud to unveil the first true MMS service for iPhones. We are confident that global operators will find Mobispine’s MMS service for iPhone easy-to-use and profitable,” said Dusyant Patel, CEO, Mobispine. “This new offering will help operators generate revenue, and differentiate their offerings in a highly competitive market.”

We're not so sure how confident Mobispine is about Apple finding its service appealing. The fact that Apple has to give its approval for the app is very concerning, given its track record of rejecting software that might conflict with its own. Slash Gear points out that Apple may very well be working on its own MMS solution, having left its users out in the cold for so long.

Mobispine's blog doesn't reveal whether the company is awaiting approval from Apple, or whether they've even submitted it. In any case, the minute we learn of its presence on the venue, we'll let you know. So, who's been missing MMS on their iPhone, and who hasn't?
