So-called hard times may have fallen upon the IT market, seeing as how barely any new products are getting released, but it seems Mitsubishi was still able to show off a couple of new display, both based on the OLED technology.

Displays come in many shapes and sizes on both the consumer and the non-consumer oriented fronts.

Interestingly enough, consumer models are actually more restricted in terms of form factors and performance parameters, since price and usability factors have to always be kept in mind.

That said, the market for digital signage, commercial applications and any other professional outlets let companies experiment much more freely.

Thus it was that Mitsubishi let its imagination loose and created the Diamond Vision, a curved OLED display introduced at ISE-2011.

With a radius of 917,15 mm, it has a resolution of 1920 x 256 mm and a pixel pitch of 3 mm, the full size being of 384 mm x W 384 mm x 97 mm (H x W x D).

The number of pixels per module is of H 128 x 128, while the pixel density is of 111,111 pixels per square meter.

What's more, the new invention has a brightness of up to 1,200 cd/m2, plus viewing angles of 80 degrees, both horizontal and vertical.

In addition to the prototype, which should be followed by an actual product over the next few months, the next-generation Diamond Vision PMOLED was showcased as well.

It has mostly the same specifications and a weight of 8 kg, plus a light output of up to twice that of LCDs.

Basically, the Diamond Vision models should be most useful in shopping malls or passenger terminals, or other high ambient light public areas.

What remains to be seen is how fast they reach the market and how great a success they enjoy.
