New DLC in store for the game

Mirror's Edge is definitely an innovative title, which brings a lot of new things to the already saturated first-person game segment. It places you in the sports shoes of a girl named Faith, who is a runner, a type of courier who delivers packages by crossing the rooftops of buildings in a futuristic dystopia, where the totalitarian government has made people very obedient.

The game features a unique "true" first person view, which really gets you plugged into the gameplay. You even have the choice of playing without using a gun, motivated by the fact that it only slows your movement across the building rooftops. The game has been launched last month for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, with a PC version in store for the middle of January.

But although a short time has passed since the launch, DICE, the studio responsible for the game, has announced that it will release a DLC (Downloadable Content) pack that will include seven maps for the time trial mode. These new maps will give players the opportunity to play nine races against other people around the world, with the best time being recorded by the leaderboards of the game.

"The freedom of movement and control in first person has been the most popular aspect of Mirror’s Edge so we decided to distil these down to their purest form for this map pack," says Owen O’Brien, senior producer, DICE. "We deliberately chose a more abstract aesthetic that is still within our distinctive art style and then focused on flow and gameplay to create an experience and challenge very different from the main game."

This new pack will be available at the end of January, for all the platforms, including the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. It will be priced at 10 dollars, or 800 Microsoft Points, depending on where you choose to purchase it. Furthermore, PS3 owners will also receive another free time-trial map made exclusively for that console.

All in all, some pretty interesting stuff, which is sure to make a lot of Mirror's Edge fans out there very happy.
