Mojang, the independent developer behind the cult hit Minecraft, has confirmed quite a few new details about Minecraft for the PS4, revealing that the game will deliver not only a high-quality experience but also the transfer of save game files from the PS3 edition and even an upgrade from that version to the new one for a small fee.

Minecraft has tens of millions of fans on the PC platform but it's rapidly becoming a powerhouse on consoles as well, gaining millions of fans on PS3 or Xbox 360 in recent years.

This August, Mojang and partner 4J Studios will be bringing Minecraft onto more platforms, like PS4, Xbox 360, or PS Vita, with a host of improvements.

In a post on the PS blog, Mojang has confirmed some of the different features that will be included in Minecraft for PS4.

First up, the worlds possible in the new version of the game will be 36 times bigger than on the PS3 and, thanks to the save game import feature, owners of the title on the PS3 will be able to transfer their creations into the new version of the game on PS4.

"Making old saves compatible with the newer versions of the game was priority for Mojang and our trusted developer chums at 4J. We value the loyalty of PlayStation fans who bought Minecraft: Playstation 3 Edition last year, and want to make things as simple as possible for any early adopters."

What's more, existing Minecraft PS3 owners will be able to upgrade to the PS4 edition for a small fee. This feature is currently supported for the digital edition of Minecraft PS3, as the disc version is causing some problems, according to Mojang.

Minecraft on PS4 will support up to eight players online via the cooperative mode and four players locally via the split-screen feature.

What's more, the actual game will make use of the DualShock 4 controller, more specifically its touchpad, in order to navigate the menu and do other things.

"The clever devs at 4J are also taking advantage of Dualshock 4′s unique features. You’ll be able to navigate all the menus (and craft) by using the touchpad and, of course, share and stream your experiences thanks to PS4′s built-in social thingymabobs. It’s all completely optional, so don’t worry if you’re not keen on moving your thumbs or showing off your skills," the studio said.

Minecraft on the PS4 will also support lots of trophies, and Mojang already has plans to release special downloadable content packs with skins and other things based on Sony-owned properties.
