Generally, the USB connection is used to allow an external storage solution, such as a hard drive or flash drive, among other things, to communicate with a host computer. Still, there are some uses which, though less common, definitely show off the versatility of the connection. Such is the case with a certain product that a certain company known as Mimio just unveiled. In short, the miniature display solution developer showcased a more sophisticated product, compared to previous ones.

In the past, Mimio drew attention by unleashing miniature displays. Basically, these items connected to the PC and acted as space-efficient substitutes for a monitor. Now, the same player has come up with the so-called Mini-Monster, a new screen that is both larger and more functional than its predecessors.

To be more specific, the Mini-Monster measures 10.1 inches (9.7 x 6.3 x 1 inches), just as much as the displays used by netbooks. What many netbook panels don't share with the Mini-monster, on the other hand, is support for touch input.

Other specifications of the device include EnergyStar efficiency certification, 340 cd/m2 brightness, 400:1 contrast ratio, 1.77 pounds and a quite decent native resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels.

Mimio's product features a built-in stylus and a simple fold-out stand that lets users switch between a tablet form factor and a desktop monitor form. Furthermore, the company threw in a Kensington lock security system. As for the actual usability, the drivers install automatically, after which the touchscreen functionality enables such operations as POS data input, signature and handwriting capture, the use of Photoshop tool palettes and, of course, anything a mouse would be used for. Orders may be set through the official product page, as long as consumers are willing to part with the sum of $259.
