She might be a firecracker on stage, but behind closed doors, Miley Cyrus might be just as insecure as any 20-year-old girl. In a recent interview with Barbara Walters, the pop singer revealed a calmer, quieter side that probably not many of us thought she had.

As 2013 draws to an end, Miley seems to be cooling off her heels, despite planned performances in New York for New Year's. As part of the “10 Most Fascinating People of 2013” special Barbara Walters is airing this Wednesday, Miley talked about her split from Liam Hemsworth.

In a raspy voice like that of a chain smoker, the “Wrecking Ball” singer confesses, "I was so scared of ever being alone, and I think, conquering that fear, this year, was actually bigger than any other transition that I had, this entire year."

She reveals that one song from her recent albums “Bangerz” documents perfectly the breakup. That track is “Drive” and Miley confirmed that it tells the story exactly how it happened “I don't think there was any, any lies.”

After being engaged at 19, Cyrus says she's had some time to think and that, while she won't change a thing from her past, she won't be rushing into relationships anymore. "It was so fun wearing a fat rock for a few years. But now, I just feel like I can actually be happy. I wait for those moments of silence, when I'm just at my house, by myself," she says.

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth met on the set of the film “The Last Song” back in 2009 and hit it off. They went steady for a while and, in 2012, they announced their engagement. However, it wasn't to last, as in September 2013, among numerous rumors of a troubled relationship, they announced their split.

This interview comes days after speculation that she might be dating her friend French Montana. The two have worked together on her “Bangerz” album and when pictures emerged of them hugging while in New York, rumors of a possible relationship sparked immediately.

Miley was quick to dismiss such allegations, labeling her relation with French Montana as just a simple friendship. She even took to Twitter and said "DONT hug your friends goodbye unless you wanna be rumored 'dating'."

Only time will tell if Miley is indeed as independent as she claims to have become, or she's looking for support in the arms of “friends.”

Either way, one thing remains clear: if the two do decide to get together, it will be the best couple in years. Can you imagine it? Hannah Montana hooks up with French Montana. The newspaper titles would be hilarious!
