14 DAY TRIAL // Back in 1999, long before Miley Cyrus outraged the world by daring to twerk on Robin Thicke, Lil Kim showed up at the MTV Video Music Awards in an outfit that is still getting people talking today. It should probably come as no surprise that this is the look that Miley is recreating for Halloween.
This year at the same MTV awards, Miley Cyrus performed her new single “We Can’t Stop” and then did a duet with Robin Thicke on his “Blurred Lines,” both of them accompanied by very revealing stage costumes and even more suggesting choreography.
By the time she was twerking on Thicke, there were plenty of jaws on the floor in the audience and among the viewers at home.
However, let’s not forget, Miley isn’t the first and will certainly not be the last young pop star to shock like this. Before her, rapper Lil Kim wrote the book on how to bring the shock factor to such a party.
In 1999, she strolled on the red carpet at the VMAs in a purple wig (like the one Miley is sporting in the photo attached to this article) and matching purple bodysuit. However, the bodysuit left one of her breasts uncovered, with only a seashell-shaped purple pasty on it to protect Lil Kim’s modesty.
So this is the look that Miley chose for Halloween. Because of the nature of the costume, we can’t include a photo of it here, but you can see it on Instagram, where Miley has been showing it off with several pics.
“Happy Halloween @LilKim,” Miley wrote in the caption of one of the pics, making sure that the rapper knew of her feat. Lil Kim was obviously thrilled to have her most iconic looks recreated for Halloween, writing back, “Yasssssss my baby!!!!”
Miley also got one of her male friends to dress up as herself at the VMAs. At the same time, her two outfits during the performance at the awards gala were favorites with celebrities this year.
