Britney Spears ranks only third

Britney Spears is no longer the Queen of Pop, as a new poll conducted online by the New York Daily News, the PopEater section, has just awarded Disney’s IT girl Miley Cyrus the honor. Ironically enough, the publication informs, while Miley is the indisputable teen idol, she is not seen as a fit role model by the majority.

Miley came in first in teenagers’ preferences in terms of music and acting, but only 10 percent of those who voted actually considered her a fit role model. The second place went to the Jonas Brothers, the same publication informs, while Britney Spears ranked in third, a drop that has been attributed to her antics over the past two years and her highly mediated public meltdowns.

“Country pop singer Taylor Swift was overwhelmingly named the celebrity who has the best influence on young people, with Spears get just 4% of that vote. The Backstreet Boys were voted the greatest teen idols of the ‘90s, Kirk Cameron scooped that title for the ‘80s and David Cassidy was the singer of choice for the ‘70s. John Travolta made a comeback in the survey, being named the hottest former teen idol by 54% of those who responded.” the publication further reveals. Rob Lowe was named the most scandalous idol of all times.

Strangely enough, just a couple of days ago, Miley Cyrus was telling the media that the last thing she wanted the world to believe of her was that she was an idol. She would much rather be considered a role model than an idol, because she would like people to see her mistakes and learn from them. Oppositely, an idol is someone who is perfect, she said at the time, and she was far from perfect.

“If you look at me as a role model I agree with it, but if you look at me as an idol, I don’t. An idol for me is someone you want to replicate, you want to be them and I don’t wish that on anyone to lose what they have personally.” Miley added in the same interview with Fox News.
