She's known for her risqué outfits that often leave little or nothing to the imagination, but now Miley Cyrus is baring skin for a good cause. In a picture recently posted to her Twitter account, the “Wrecking Ball” singer appears with her shirt pulled up in support of the “Free the Nipple” campaign.

Tongue out and eyes red, Miley can be seen with her shirt up, with two giant red hearts covering the very thing she's trying to support. Which is kind of mind boggling if you stop to think about it, but in the world of Miley, it probably makes a lot of sense.

The censored picture bears the comment “Merry Christmas … THAK YOU NY for being one of the few states to @freethenipple,” and is referring to a recent campaign that seeks to expose America's predisposition to violence and censorship of the female body.

In a promo clip that has been making the rounds on the Internet, women complain that while news broadcast and glorify acts of violence everyday, female nudity is frowned upon and censored. They claim that they should be allowed equal rights to walk around topless without getting arrested, just like men do.

The group's Facebook page speaks about “decriminalizing the female body” and “protest the backwards censorship laws in the US.” The movement has raised very different responses in America, being very controversial.

And since “controversial” is Miley's middle name, the former Disney princess decided to show her support.

Miley later tweeted about the picture saying “It's not about getting your [breasts] out. It's about equality.” Apparently, Miley Cyrus advocates toplessness in women and is prepared to defend it with censored pictures.

The “Wrecking Ball” singer has just been named Artist of the Year by MTV, has a top selling album in the charts, “Bangerz,” and is getting ready to start a tour to promote it. She is billed to appear in New York for New Year's at the famous Times Square party.
