Last week, during what was supposed to be a regular promo appearance, Mike Tyson revealed that he was a “vicious alcoholic” “on the verge of dying” because he had relapsed. Below is his interview with Matt Lauer on the topic.

Tyson explains why he decided to come clean with his relapse, and adds with certain pride that he’s been sober for 12 days. It’s not easy though.

However, it’s infinitely better than being the horrible person he is when he drinks.

“When I start drinking and I relapse, I think of dying. When I'm in a real dark mood, I think of dying. And I don't want to be around no more. I won't survive unless I get help,” he says.

“Sometimes I don’t wanna live no more,” Tyson says of what happens when he’s drunk.

He then gets choked up, in what is perhaps the most difficult to watch part of the interview.

“No one's failed more than I did. I'm a king of the barbarians. There's no one that could surpass me in the pain that I've endured. I can deal with it. I can handle it,” he says.

Tyson is also recording his road to recovery for a documentary called “Being Mike Tyson.”
